I have had many friends and students request that I post images from my sketchbooks. I have never thought to do such a thing since I have always been afraid of sharing with people something I consider to be private in nature. I tend not to sketch much, and if I do, it is because the work on which I might be working at the time is giving me some challenges, either by design or composition. If I do sketch something, it is for an image or object that I like but have no piece or image to place in at the time but would not want to forget about it. In those cases, more than often, I would just snap a picture of the object and then paste it in the sketch book, “Thank you, I-Phone.”. Ultimately, my sketchbooks are solely a sort of collage surface at times with no rhyme or reason where thoughts, ideas, and images come together in an attempt to make sense of my creative process.
We have to apologize for the extra lines from former President George W. Bush. My daughter thought it was funny to violate the cardinal rule of never touching her father’s work. I did use this image in the painting titled Social Toxicity, in which he is portrayed wearing a Mickey Mouse hat, an essential element to complete the story. I did so with the utmost respect.
